Jaipur |
Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan, the desert state of India. When I think about Jaipur, the word that comes to mind is "pink". After all, it is not known as the Pink City for nothing. There are pink buildings as far as the eye can see. Entire marketplaces are pink. Different shades of pink. It would be safe to say that people who don't like pink will not like Jaipur.
I have tried to not take too many pictures of pink buildings. But it is obvious that many such photographs have still happened.
There are also historical monuments: palaces, forts and the like. Our trip to Jaipur started in the fort of the medieval ruler Mer's fort.
One advantage of not being a tourist when one travels is that one talks much less on the web page with the photos. I wasn't really out on photographic expedition; these were mostly pictures I took when the the rest of my family went shopping. I have no idea what any of these things are -- I just took pictures, and here they are.
Our next stop was the Jaipur city palace. It is not a palace anymore in the sense that no kings live in it now, but it is still quite majestic.
Walking along the streets of Jaipur, one is struck by how much of the city is very old, and not very well taken care of. Makes for good pictures. Oh, and try not to notice the pink.
After that, we need some flowers to cheer us up...
And Jaipur's famous Hawaa Mahal (palace of winds), so called because of its many many windows. (You'll need to click on the image and see the bigger version to see this clearly, though).
Of course, no album on India should be complete without some cows.
One evening, while walking in a random direction, I came up across this monument. I have no idea what it is, but I like these photos.
